is an accomplished classical & jazz clarinetist, conductor, music educator
and arts manager. He has appeared as a solo clarinetist and with orchestras
in the U.S. and Europe, and has performed with such diverse groups as the
Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy, the Heidelberg Opera Orchestra
in Germany, the Rochester Big Band and the North Carolina Symphony. He performed
over 200 concerts and master-classes while working as a North Carolina Visiting
Artist through the North Carolina Arts Council. While in North Carolina,
he founded the American Music Festival in Beaufort, NC, and served as Artistic
Director .He has taught at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington,
Meredith College, Rutgers University Summer Arts Institute, Albion College
(MI), the Hochstein School of Music (NY), the Eastman School of Music and
the New England Music Camp. He performed on two recordings with Wynton Marsalis
and the Eastman Wind Ensemble for CBS Masterworks, including the Grammy-nominated
recording, "Carnival."He holds undergraduate and graduate music degrees
from the University of North Carolina and Michigan State University and
a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Eastman School of Music. He is Founder
and President of Michael Vaughn Productions®, a music, event and entertainment
production company.
