Edgar Cool's
Jazz Boat Journals

April

In the perpetual joy of the ever later sunset of Spring, the snow-melt
has risen the water level of the river. Green is returning to the bank. An otter swims by and vanishes under the Jazz Boat. He seems to be around when the jazz is playing.
In this late afternoon it's Brubeck's "Blue Rondo A La Turk" followed
by Ernestine Anderson's "In the Evening When the Sun Goes Down". She continues with "I'm Just a Lucky So & So".
The Spring brings an abundance of light. As Emerson says: "From
within or behind, a light shines through us upon things and makes us
aware that we are nothing, but the light is all."

SUNSET TRAIN

Between light and darkness
the tapping rain
sings to the Sunset Train
Long time strangers
gather round the fire
adding to the bark dog stew
Following their minds
to their chosen place
they find their answer
in a humming bird wings
